Blueberry comes from North America. It has a pleasant taste and medicinal properties. The plant is capricious, likes high-quality soil, fertilizers and certain growing conditions. However, caring for the plant itself is not difficult.
Blueberry pruning
Pruning is done with a sharp sector. It is necessary to remove those shoots that grow inside the bush and did not have time to ripen. Only 2-3 shoots are left on a bush that is 2-3 years old and 4-5 shoots on older plants.
It is necessary to remove small lateral branches from young ones, from which it is impossible to collect a high-quality harvest. However, the middle lateral branches, located at a height of 50-70 cm, give better fruits.
Also, you need to cut branches that are more than five years old. They are thicker and give a small harvest. It is necessary to cut at the level of mulch. Pruning is done before the sap begins to move and the buds open. In the same period, it is necessary to mulch the bushes with the help of acidic Florio peat and pine bark fraction 10-20 mm. Thus, the plant will be provided with a normal level of acidity and moisture.
Feeding
From the beginning of the sap movement, you need to start feeding the bushes.
It is not possible to feed blueberries with organic fertilizers – manure, compost, humus and liquid organic fertilizers.
It is better to use prolonged fertilizers containing an optimal level of nitrogen and a low pH.
Also, gardeners use physiologically acidic fertilizers — ammonium sulfate, monopotassium phosphate. However, in this case, the bushes will not have enough nutrients.
Fertilizing in early spring helps the plant grow and set flower buds, as well as develop the root system.
