In order for beets and carrots to grow sweet, certain rules of care for these crops should be followed.

Before sowing beets and carrots, it is not necessary to add organic fertilizers to the soil, especially fresh manure. This will increase the level of nitrogen, then the vegetables will have a taste of iodine, the color will not be natural, and the appearance will be shriveled and twisted.

These two crops like good lighting, so they are sown in the sun. Replanting in the same area is possible only after three or four years.

You can plant peas, early potatoes, cucumbers, onions on the plot, and after them you can sow beets and carrots already next year.

These two vegetables like neutral soil. If it is slightly acidic, then the sugar content in the fruit will decrease. To neutralize the acid, liming is required. This is done in the fall, once every 6-8 years. You will need 0.3-0.5 kg of lime per 1 square meter, which should be spread on the site and mixed with the ground with a rake.

Feeding these two crops is also necessary. In the summer, you can apply a solution of nitroammofoska – 30-40 grams per 10 liters of water. They are watered with a solution of 2-3 liters of row spacing, and then with ordinary water.

In August, carrots and beets should be fed with microfertilizers containing manganese and boron. Then the root crops will be enriched with vitamins and sugar. For 10 liters of water, you need to add 1 tsp. boron and manganese, and then water with a solution between the rows, after which watering is carried out with ordinary water.

Wood ash also contains boron, manganese, micro- and macroelements. It is necessary to add half a glass per one meter and level it with the soil, then water.

Beets like kitchen or sea salt. During the growing season, they are fed with a saline solution at least three times. To do this, add 10-15 grams of salt to 10 liters of water. Watering is carried out at the rate of 5 liters per 1 square meter.

Top dressing for carrots is carried out at the end of August, using boric acid. 1 tsp is added to 1 liter of hot water. boron, then dilute the solution with 10 liters of water. Wait until it cools completely, then spray the plants.

Carrots can have a bitter aftertaste. This happens because it protects itself from the carrot fly. To avoid this, you can use tobacco dust. When thinning the beds, sprinkle between the rows with this product.
